Rules

Even before connecting, all players should be aware that there is a minimum set of rules everyone is required to follow in order to keep Mafia a pleasant environment for playing. They are:

  • Be tolerant of new players.
Mafia is an advanced, fast-paced game environment. However, new players may require several games to learn how it works and to properly adapt to the pace of the game. If you are an advanced player or a quick learner, please be patient towards others. Instead of snapping at them, explain things to them so they learn faster.
  • You shouldn't suicide or give yourself away repeatedly.
Even after you're dead you're still part of a game, and if you are not around you will be a disadvantage for your team. If you by chance had a unique role, the game will be deprived of that role just because you didn't like it - and even if you're a simple citizen, citizens are part of the game, and your turn to be something else will arrive. Please respect the other players and refrain from joining a game and then leaving. If you do this repeatedly, moderators may take action against you.
Also equally annoying (and bearing the same effect) is joining the game and then going AFK. There is an automated Anti-AFK system that will kill idle players and block them from joining games for a period of time.
Playing to lose or betraying your faction will ruin the game for your entire faction and probably for your opponents as well. Under reasonable circumstances (such as when your faction has absolutely no possibility of winning) you are allowed to play to lose or to betray your faction, but try to avoid it as much as possible. If you repeatedly ruin the game for everyone, moderators may take action against you.
  • No clones.
You cannot play as two people. If we catch someone playing with two or more connections, we will permanently ban both connections. Please notify a moderator if two people will be playing from your house (you will need two IP addresses).
  • Do not spam the players.
Any kind of spam inside Mafia is absolutely forbidden and will result in a ban. Please be very careful when pasting an URL; Make sure it can't under any circumstances be considered as spam, or it will. We recommend using IRC to chat with other players and exchanging URLs if you wish to do so.
All links that are adult in nature will be considered spam.
  • No communication outside the game.
While we can't stop you from doing this, and it doesn't usually affect the game that much, it's extremely disrespectful toward the other players, so try to avoid it.

All moderators and operators in Mafia can place temporary or permanent bans, block players from joining games or kick players out of Mafia, and are authorized to act on their own discretion when faced with the above situations.

  • Do not harrass the operators.
You can talk to us normally or to tell us how awesome we are, just don't be an annoying piece of shit when you aren't happy about something. If you've already told us once, we don't want to hear it again. We will either deal with it when we can, or we like things as they are.

Other Etiquette

Mafia follows many of the normal internet rules. Moderators may enforce some of these more harshly than the others.

  • No extremely abusive language.
  • No harassing players.
  • No offensive names (mods can and will make you change these).
  • Normal fighting is ok but please try and let it go after the game ends.
  • Be polite. You always get more flies with honey than with vinegar.
